WHAT ARE COOKIES?

Cookies are small files that are installed on the hard disk or the browser of a computer, tablet, smartphone or equivalent Internet-enabled device. They help customise the services of the website, make browsing easier, enhance usability, obtain aggregate information from website visitors, enable the reproduction and display of multimedia content on the website, allow for interaction between the user and the website, enable security tools, etc.

DEFINITIONS USED IN THIS COOKIE POLICY

  • Usability: the experience a user has when browsing, using and interacting with a website
  • Aggregate information: non-nominal, typically numerical information for the purpose of providing statistical data
  • Terminal: the device (computer, smartphone, tablet, etc.) used to browse the Internet
  • Webmaster: website manager or owner
  • Third party: external company, collaborator, service provider or company related to the webmaster involved in the management of certain cookies
  • Cookie manager: the webmaster, website manager or owner, or even the third party in some cases
  • Browsing habits: trends that the user shows when browsing a website, such as the time visiting the site, the parts visited, the most frequently checked sections, origin of the visit and destination of the visit, among others.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF COOKIES?

Depending on the company that manages them:

First-party cookies: those sent to the user’s device from a computer or domain managed by the webmaster and from which the service requested by the user is provided.

Third-party cookies: those sent to the user’s computer terminal from a computer or domain that is not managed by the webmaster, but by another entity which processes the data obtained through the cookies.

Depending on the length of time they remain enabled in the terminal:

Session cookies:: a type of cookie designed to collect and store data while the user is accessing a website.

Persistent cookies: a type of cookie in which the data is still stored in the browser and can be accessed and processed for a period defined by the cookie manager, and which may range from a few minutes to several years.

Depending on the purpose for which the data obtained through cookies is processed:

Technical cookies: these allow the user to browse a website, app or platform and use the different options or services on it, such as tracking traffic and data communication, identifying the session, accessing sections with restricted access, remembering the items in an order, performing the purchasing process of an order, signing up to or taking part in an event, using security elements during the session, storing content for playing videos or sound, or sharing content on social media.

Customisation cookies: these allow the user to access the service with general features that are preset according to a series of criteria found on the user’s terminal, such as language, type of browser used to access the service, regional configuration used to access the service, etc.

Analytical cookies: these allow cookie managers to monitor and analyse the behaviour of the users of the websites to which they are linked. The information collected through this type of cookies is used to measure activity on websites, apps and platforms, and to create browsing profiles of the users of these websites so that enhancements can be made based on an analysis of how they use the services.

Advertising cookies: these guarantee the most efficient management possible of any advertising spaces included on the website, app or platform from which the requested service is provided, based on criteria such as the content published or the frequency with which adverts are displayed.

Behavioural advertising cookies: these guarantee the most efficient management possible of advertising spaces which, if applicable, the webmaster has included in a website, app or platform from which the requested service is provided. These cookies store information about the user’s activity, obtained by continuously monitoring their browsing habits, allowing the cookie manager to create user-specific profiles and display advertisements that match the user’s interests.
